CATERPILLAR 3204 Essential Diesel Engine Bolt Tightening Torques

Main Bearing bolts
Step 1 = 45 ± 4 lb.ft (61 ± 6 Nm)
Step 2 = +60° ± 5°

Connecting Rod Bolts
Step 1 = 30 ± 3 lb.ft (40 ± 4 Nm)
Step 2 = +60° ± 5°

(with six dash marks)
Step 1 = Tighten bolts 1 thru 18 in
number sequence to:
60 ± 10 lb.ft (80 ± 14 Nm)

Step 2. Tighten bolts 1 thru 18 in
number sequence to:
95 ± 5 lb.ft  (130 ± 7 Nm)

Step 3. Again tighten bolts 1 thru 18
in number sequence to:
95 ± 5 lb.ft (130 ± 7 Nm)

ALL:
Torque for head bolts 19 thru 22
(tighten in number sequence to)
32 ± 5 lb.ft (43 ± 7 Nm)
PC Cylinder head Bolts
Later BOLTS
(with seven dash marks)
Step 1 = Tighten bolts 1 thru 18 in
number sequence to:
60 ± 10 lb.ft (80 ± 14 Nm)

Step 2. Tighten bolts 1 thru 18 in
number sequence to:
110 ± 5 lb.ft  (150 ± 7 Nm)

Step 3. Again tighten bolts 1 thru 18
in number sequence to:
110 ± 5 lb.ft (150 ± 7 Nm)

ALL:
Torque for head bolts 19 thru 22
(tighten in number sequence to)
32 ± 5 lb.ft (43 ± 7 Nm)
